The giant palm trees

Yesterday, I was walking in Valle de Cocora, in Colombia, and the sky was just perfect to explore some black and white pictures.
Here's two I like of the tallest palm in the world, the Wax palm...

That's a tall palm tree! Do you have any pictures showing the scale of these, say compared to buildings/cars/people?

#1, the b&w picture not bad. I would experiment a bit with the crop, square, like in the thumb, has also good, dynamic compo. Plus the texture of the sky is nice, interesting, mood setting.
 
I really get a sense of the trees towering. Did you count on the sun's halo being part of the composition?
 
Yes, I did put the sun directly behind the crown of the palm to have the halo centered with the palm. It's the fine dust of cloud that was still there that made it visible to the eye..

Here's another picture i took of the same trees, but with wind gusting through them...
