So the supposition here is that the "perfect vehicle" would be a subcompact, and that this one size of vehicle would best suit every drivers individual needs.

Huh. I would disagree.. wholeheartedly. I don't drive a subcompact, never have. Might have a lot to do with the fact that I'm a pretty big guy, I don't fit well in most subcompact cars. Might also have something to do with the fact that my requirements for a car are not "the smallest, most fuel efficient vehicle it's humanly possible to engineer".

Likewise different people have different tastes when it comes to cameras. For those of you guys who like small/compact.. great. Wonderful. More power to you. Try to take away my DSLR and replace it with something that doesn't fit in my big gorilla hands well? Nope. You'll have a serious fight on your hands.

I don't want small, compact, hard for me to use with my big paws. I don't mind carrying a big, bulky, 4 lb lens - doesn't bother me a bit, I actually prefer it.

So if a smaller camera works for you, and for this guy, great. Happy for both of you. But it doesn't necessarily follow that a smaller camera is the best choice for everybody.

Same reason they still make SUV's, BTW.

For just driving my favorite was a 70 Boss mustang I once owned, however wasn't very practical for 3 kids, so for that purpose a a 90 Nissan Pathfinder was a much better fit.

For cameras, I love my D600. I picked up a Fuji-XE2 at a camera shop and tested it out, realized instantly it would never be a camera for me. It reminded me of the time I tried to climb behind the wheel of a mazda miata.. and almost got stuck.

I have a work camera and a play camera. Work camera is a D810 which I only use for paid assignments or portfolio work or when there's a decent chance the image might be worth something - either monetary or sentimental.
There's a play camera which I carry every where and photograph my food, my friends, my travels. Play camera last year was a borrowed Lumix GM1. Play the year before was a Lumix LX5. This year I bought a TG4 which narrowly beat out an OMD EM10.

I only have the one camera, which I guess by definition is a play camera since I don't shoot professionally. For me even if I did own more than one body, I doubt I'd end up choosing a mirrorless simply because they do feel so incredibly tiny and awkward in my hands. Some folks love the smaller size.. which is great, but for me, eh.. not a fan.

It always cracks me up though when I read articles like the one posted that the author doesn't ever seem to consider that the "perfect" camera for them might not be the "perfect" camera for everyone else.

Sorry but I dont like that at all, this dude wrote about his perfect camera but NOT mine.
And if the shots in his review is a testimony of his skills then I am not really surprised why he wrote this nonsense.

I didn't read the article but I think the perfect camera is a small pocket-size mirrorless with a pancake zoom lens 10 - 600mm and costs less than $500

My second most perfect camera is when I convince my GF that she can use my camera as a back up for her shoot if she carries it for me. Or sometimes I just borrow hers to take a shot or two before giving it back. Then all I need to carry is a small memory card.
