The Rose Glows

Gave my best effort to do justice to a rose in black and white. I always try to get the deep blacks and glowing whites in some kind of balance and I think I came close here.

Not quite so lucky with the shot of this stump. Still working on getting this right

Very nice on the rose. Really good lighting to pick up the translucency of the petals at the top of the rose, and the texture of the petals at the base.

The flower is nice, but that bright bit in the lower right has to go. Since the flower is already cropped on the bottom, just do it some more - I'm an advocate of not cutting something off only a little.

Well, I would have liked to avoid the cropping of the bottom. But there was an ugly part of the lower petal that I couldn't live with so, reluctantly, I cropped in this fashion. the leaf that is in the lower right side has kinda bothered me too; I debated doing something with it. I don't want to crop further so I have gone ahead and got rid of it in editing. How's this ?

Rose very nice, there is a feel for the third dimension. Why don't you substract half a stop of exposure so the top of the flower is not loosing so much of detail and texture ? You are right about the stump, but in harsh light everyone would have a problem.
