I really liked this setting and tried to capture it as I felt it one the day.

I like the scene, but the intense highlights in the centre are a bit of a distraction; this is a scene tailor-made for an HDR shot.

Yes that was the one thing that I sort of was disappointed about, if you wish have a go at it then

Unfortunately, with only one image, the best you could do would be some tone-mapping; if you have the chance, go back there again, and shoot a series of images, say 5, 1/2 stop apart and combine with software such as Photomattix, or Photoshop's 'HDR Merge'. (Just don't forget your tripod).

True HDR is achieved with multiple exposures, not one image edited.
