thinking about buying a canon 50mm 1.4

I have it, but rarely use it for what I do. On a crop, it's not wide enough for landscape, not quite long enough for portrait, and too long for group shots and other in-house work, in my opinion.

I'd love to see someone write/show a comparison between the 1.4 and the 1.8. Obviously money talks, and the price difference is significant, but still, different photographers retain different values.

On topic: I personally don't have any experience with the lens in question...

I love mine! Just remember DOF is vary shallow wide open. Its a very sharp lens especially stoped down a little. Well worth the money.
