If your a laywer perhaps you have enough start up capitol that it doesnt matter, or perhaps you know a cheap patent attorney, but you have a year to file after public disclosure of your idea so if startup funds are tight, defer that cost until you have cash flow.
My brother is a patent attorney and he works for me for free. I do his tax work for him for free. It's a good deal both ways.
Im sure you know to start an LLC to limit your personal liability.
LLC or S-Corp are my 2 current options. Either work for my purposes and for limited liability. Perhaps multiple LLCs for different product lines.
Testing your market ASAP is one of the most important things you can do.
Marketing should never be overlooked.
Agreed. I am at the **bright idea** stage of this project at the moment so marketing is a bit ahead of the curve, but I am definitely trying to think of ways to get the product to market and establish a brand name and "buzz" about this item.
If your idea requires engineering analysis or you need someone to consult on manufacturability / cost of production I have years of experience in R&D and manufacturing and am available to consult at $50/hr.
Thanks for that. It is really a simple project / item that anybody could understand. I just think there is a market for this type of thing, and in 2010 my target market spent $43 BILLION. So, there is definitely something to tap into and get my share.
