What's new

This is starting to piss me off.....

i really cannot understand why some people eat their gear ...

if you've saved 2 grand for a tele zoom, and want to switch to a wide-angle zoom because of a backorder, you might want to consider what you really need here. collecting glass or shooting with it?

I agree with this 100 percent... unless, of course, you are rich. I have a friend who bills out at $400 an hour, so this lens is pocket change to him... but for me, I didn't buy one until I "NEEDED" one...

hmmm, might try that if you bring your 300 next month ...

Nikon supply channels are notoriously..... what's the word?..... "intermittent?".... "sporadic?"....

I've been told by a few sellers that Nikon works off a quarterly supply schedule... projections are made, goods are manufactured and sent into the channel and that's that - no resupply until 'sometime' next quarter..... even the big sellers aren't sure when they're getting resupply on some product

So, depending on the accuracy of their projections and the time you're buying, you're in luck - or not.

When I was thinking about the 70-200, it seemed like they were in stock pretty much anywhere..... when I was ready to buy..... it took some searching.

Bought another big lens because nobody had ANY for months..... then suddenly, some were around.....

Nikon is also notorious for NOT meeting demand in new product introductions - a few sellers think this is deliberate to keep up the price and 'cachet'.......

on the other hand it may simply be a less than efficient production planning and manufacturing system.... some companies don't have any real incentive to improve things as long as they're selling what they make.... nevermind if they could sell more.... moot point if the capacity isn't there

No, Im just upgrading my glass collection, and I would like to get both lenses. Considering I use both focals equally it doesn't matter which one comes first. :)

I blend them first
Is there any other way? I plan on making a feast out of my old lenses... Maybe spice things up with an aged strobe.... :D

Can I meet your friend!?

Oh and I found this cool new feature on B&H that will notify me via email when they have some available... Im Stoked

I don't know if you ever found the lens (and I"m too lazy to read the entire thread) but I saw the 70-200 VR lens at a Best Buy in Alabama about a week ago...keep looking, I'm sure it'll turn up.

I am sure he would be glad to meet you... I can give you the name of his firm, and you can call and make an appointment... of course, it is going to cost you about $400 an hour to chat with him, but that is just the way it is...

Me, he sees for free (and MOOCHES shamelessly off of I might add... Rick, if you are reading this, I need my 77mm ND filters back)...

It is slower than yesterday. It works, but I keep checking their site and when it lights up I'm off to the races. The e-mail usually lags a day or two behind. By then the lens (in this case the 24-70mm & the 70-200mm) is not around too long because of the demand.

Did I mention that I got them both now? :smileys:

Scott, did you read my post about the 70-200? Sigma4less not only has no issues with stock, they ship fast and at a reasonable price.

I ordered a week before Christmas and got it BEFORE Christmas!

Today I give it a nice workout at one of my favorite locations for photographing in a relaxing environment. The 18-200 is a good lens (I own that one too). Actually its a superior walkaround lens, but its not in the same class quality-wise. If your heart is set on the 70-200, stick to your guns. :)
