I wasn't sure what to do with the pleated skirt... I like the shot, but feel like that skirt is such an attention grabber.

Hmmm... I want to like this, I really do. I love the light and her face, but something about the kneeling pose here just makes this not work for me. I think a standing shot would have been a LOT stronger, and I think here you really needed a reflector or something to bring in a little fill light to pull some detail out of that skirt.

there is enough detail in the skirt.
just make another layer and mask out everything but the skirt and raise the brightness.

The kneeling pose doesn't work for me, either. As I see it her outfit and her ethereal beauty don't go with being on the ground, it's almost as if she'd stumbled and you caught her as she recovered. I see this young lady in this outfit as more likely to be seen being helped out of a 1930s era Rolls Royce by a uniformed chauffeur.

.... But then you engaged me and made me think so that makes it a winner. ....Hope you get to work with this one again.

Dan, this is lovely. Reminds me of Cecil Beaton. Agree, mask it and bring up the skirt a bit so the pleats are visible.

What grabs my eye is the sharpness of the edge (it even has a backlit component to it). Did you try to diminish the sharpness at that edge?

It is backlit just barely.
Removing sharpness seems a bit like a step backwards the way I see it since this shot didn't need any additional sharpening in post, but perhaps there is something I'm missing in terms of knowing when a lens renders something out as too sharp...

Hey Dan, it's a nice shot & my comments are based on my stylistic choices.

Personally I'm stepping back from sharpness in a lot of cases (incredible considering my cost of fast glass). When I see the sharpness renders the resolution beyond reality (in documentary), I back off, that's just me

I definitely have an appreciation for the soft style, but I prefer tac sharp for sure. To each their own.
