tips for shooting freeway at night?

I think I have a great location at a parking lot to shoot a freeway at night. I was hoping to practice this weekend. Besides the tripod and long exposures, do you have any tips? I have never done this type of shot before.

f/8 or above and 30 second exposure. Make sure to use 100 iso and if it doesn't come out to your liking, change up the settings (either shorter or longer exposure, etc.)

Night exposures, imo, are trial and error.

Yan experiment with these:
1. Purposely zoom in and out while taking long exposure
2. Purposely change the focus while taking long exposure
3. Purposely shoot out of focus
4. HDR

a flashlight, extra batties, remote control would be nice.
