Can others edit my Photos
Photos OK to edit
So I am a weekend warrior. I do most of my shots in the weekend and night (trying to generate 2nd income). I have a full time job (structural/civil engineer). Recently with this past long weekend it has been very hard for me to be focusing on my main job. All I do is TPF (You can probably tell), facebook, web surfing. Cant focus anymore. I rather be outside taking photos. I wish one day I could make a lot more money taking photos than what I am making in engineering and be a photographer full time! Only time can tell. Too all full time photographer, I envy you!

Wow, this is exactly what was running through my head about 15 minutes ago! I'm a full time graduate student with a huge paper due next week that I haven't started yet...because I've been lurking on TPF and playing on facebook too much. I think I just need to quit the internet between now and next Wednesday to get this done.

I, too, have a bit of envy for people who get to take photos and play with photoshop all day (the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence, I suppose)

Not to be harsh on you two, but if all the time you spent here or on facebook or websurfing were actually spent taking photos, you might be there by now.

Just saying.

Don't take offense though, I'm with you guys. Trust me. Trust me. The old saying is true about taking ones own advice.

Let's say we make it happen eh?

But I am at work right now bud! hahhaah I cant be walking around taking photos of my boss and coworkers, can I?

Few retail photographers make as much money as a structural/civil enginner makes. Most retail photographers support their photography businesses with a second income, either as a second job or an income from a spouse.

The market is getting more crowded by the day.

Do you know how much revenue you have to have daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly to have a sustainable retail photography business that pays you a living wage, and provides for your retirement?

If I do photography full time, I have to make substantially more than what I am making. If it is the same or just a tad bid more, I rather stay weekend warrior because most weddings and family photos are done in the weekends anyway.

....... and then it just becomes another job.

I work in a photography studio and I want my own studio one day. I can not be creative as far as editing pictures because olan mills software is was due for an update. Plus having such a tiny place to work in does not allow me to get everyone in there without getting half the other props in the background. I will one day have my own studio and be able to do what i want!

If you made a living with photography, that would mean shooting when you have to and what you are paid to shoot, not when you want and whatever you want. I don't think it would be for everyone. You might end up wanting to purse civil engineering as a hobby.

Have you put in your 1000 hours yet schwetty?

KMH, I agree, the market is gonna be saturated with portrait/wedding photographers.

"Fine Art" photography is where it's at!!!
It's also harder to learn.

No, but can a I at least dream/hope about it?

When you truly, absolutely, love what you do, it is a pleasure.
I do love my job.... been doing it for over thirty years and am damn good at it. But if I had to do photography as a living, then I'd have to find another expensive hobby.
