Am I allowed to post sample pictures?

I think the argument against third party lenses is that their tolerances arent as tight as Nikon. ie they'll let a slightly subpar lens slide out the door a little more often. So, if you get lucky (or exhaustively audition prior to buying), you save a boatload of cash. However, if you get unlucky and get one that's just a tad bit off, you end up with subpar results. I rolled the dice on my sigma 10-20mm and couldn't be happier with it. But I have seen people with bad sigmas, and its a pain in the rear to convince whoever you bought it from to take it back a lot of times.
also, I think some of the 'nikon only' people are more referring to Nikon's absolute top tier lenses, which, from what I've seen, do tend to blow the doors off third party competitors. The consumer grade Nikon lenses do seem to just be overpriced (though again, their quality control is probably better).

Sample photos? In your own thread? Are you crazy? Of course you aren't allowed to do that.

Haha. Tpf has gone a bit draconian, but it would be a real travesty if you couldn't post sample photos In your own thread regarding a new lens purchase.
That lens looks like it will get the job done and then some. Congrates on the purchase. I find 70-200mm to be a very usefull focal range, mine rarely leaves the camera. I know a Pentax shooter that swears by Sigma lenses and owns many of them. I have really been eying the Sigma 50-500 OS as my next pruchase. I have been a little worried because Sigma QC seems to be hit and miss but it's supposed to be sharper than the original 'bigma' and the 150-500. Are you going to put the Nikon 55-200 up for sale or hold on to it as a backup?

Any superiority on the VRII's part is probably pretty minor given the price difference. Can't wait to see the results. What sport will you be shooting?
