What's new

Took your advice re-shot! CC Vegas landscape!

85mm! you must have been super far away!

i've got a few day time pics from the other side of the strip, in Henderson... they look bad cause they were taken with my old canon s3is....

The reason they are bad I think, is your fault, not the camera. The S3IS is a very capable camera that can shoot wide for landscapes & give great DOF.

Yes I was far away. Was shooting from exploration peak which is at blue diamond/buffalo.

I can't offer technical advice as I do not know anything of night photography. But I will offer howyour image effects me :) . Vegas is very colorful. That's what makes it one of the most beauitful nightsapes in the world. When I was on the plane leaving vegas, I looked down and the lights are soo colorful and vibrant that you can still make out the strip from the plane while all of other areas are just random dots. And to me the lights are very yellowed and not a true representation of what vegas is.This is more what I see in my mind when I think of Vegas strip. But please ignore the badly done 10 second edit :) jjust giving you an idea of how the vibrancy of the colors of the lights could be and what I remember from vegas!

That's what stuck out to me. Again, I don't know much about night photography so better let someone else say what they think about your progress/exposure/focus!! Who knows it could be a complete success :)
\that is a terrible edit and just looks gross.... sorry
Gross? Real technical. Guess you don't actually read through what you comment on. I stated quite a few times in this thread that this edit sucks. You should really read through a my responses again. Lol.
who said i was technical?and no i did not read thru... i commented then saw it but whatever...

The only gripe was the damn smog!!!! but i cant control that!
Actually, you do have a measure of control regarding the smog.

You can try using a Skylight 1-A filter, or shoot in the morning before sunrise rather than in the evening. There is less particulate matter in the air in the morning, which is why most high quality landscape shots are morning shots.

Your crop leaves to much sky and to little foreground for my taste.

A big issue with any night landscape shot is mixed lighting, which makes it impossible to have a correct white balance for each type of light.

makes sense, The only reason i didnt really include the foreground, is because well simply its just a bunch of desert and i feel it's a bit un-appealing. I will for sure get up there during the morning before sunrise. That makes a lot of sense about the smog. Thanks KmH

I think the desert would be more appealing than empty sky.

The top line in the rule of thirds is also known as the 'eye line', because those of us living in the western hemisphere start reading at or near the top or top left of written material. Another reason in support of more foreground and less sky.

i agree... to a certain degree. i have taken some pretty good pics with that camera...
but the lens motor died on it, so i gave up with it. it also has a really annoying fiber/hair on the inside of the lens, no idea how it got there.
