Top <10> from our yellowstone vacation!

Recently returned from my first trip to yellowstone, but definitely not my last. 4 days was not enough time to see it all, and my oldest son sprained his ankle the day before we left so we didn't get to do much hiking.

The lighting was terribly bright while we were out most of the days, so I really challenged myself to look for pockets of light, instead of trying to capture the entire landscapes. (Although I did take the obligatory vacation snap shots of corse.) I don't think I've changed out my len's so many times in the entire life of my camera, as I did while we were there. I'm hoping to acquire a backup body by the time we go back. My camera sensor is now in dire need to some TLC. Im actually considering passing the job on to a pro for this one.

Well, enough ado; onto the photos!

fun bonus: Attempted Panoramas up for your ruthless C&C. The top one got all the colors, but the bottom one has a better composition, I think.

Excellent set. #1 my favorite also and looks exactly like an old man whistling. Also, like Dean, I really like the second panorama shot.

Thanks. DH isn't much of an art person, but he actually suggested we print #1 on canvas and hang it in the house. Im calling that one a win for sure!

Love the colors in so many of these Jazzie. The muted look of #2 is gorgeous and that second panorama is beautiful.

I think #1 looks like one of the zombies from The Walking Dead with rotting teeth and dripping flesh. Sorry if that ruins if for you!!!!

Cool set. Your envisioning of Yellowstone's sights and locations is fascinatingly different from what I've seen of the park from other people. Well done.

I can totally get behind faeries, gnomes, nymphs, even vampires....but Zombies totally repulse me! ;-) LOL! In fact, I think I always avoided opening posts from @zombiesniper when his avatar was a zombie. Now that its a bird, were totally cool. :biglaugh:

Ill just try and forget you said that.

On the flip side, I am glad you enjoyed the others. Yellowstone is definitely abundant in color schemes.

I felt bad for the place the entire time I was there because I was thinking "WOW! THIS IS MAGICAL!...but the lighting is just awful, it will be a terrible photo....Look at all those dead trees ruining my perfection." There were several shots I (or my husband) had to force myself to take, for memories sake.....(7&8, and the panos above were borderline, I almost didn't bother)

I'm really going to have to find a new perspective and philosophy on vacation photography. The more I seem to critique photos, the less photos I bother taking. "wow what a GREAT place. Too bad there isn't magical sunset with fog to make it worth the shot" " What a gorgeous day! If only there were a rainbow with a pot of gold at the end of that rock over there with a unicorn sunbathing under a starry sky, then maybe I would take a picture"........

On second thought, maybe I should have become a painter. :biglaugh:

I'm not sure why I have such an aversion to them. Perhaps I was eaten alive by one in a previous life?

Really nice! My favourite is #4. For some reason the shot reminds me of a heavenly version of the Dead Marshes in the Lord of the Rings.
I'd say the second one among the panoramas ^^

I definitely can relate to that. Had similar thoughts at Disneyland recently. Kept thinking that I would wait until later in the day to get better light or waiting for a cloud to block out the sun because of the shadows and squinting and when I got home I realized that, other than the early morning I went out by myself for the sole purpose of taking pics, I barely took any with my dslr. My sister-in-law, on the other hand, was snapping away with her cell phone and ended up with most of the good family vacation memory photos.
