Travel bags?

Hi,

I am going away for a month travelling the Balkans. I am quite new to photography, I have a Nikon D5500 and 2 lenses (kit lens and 35mm). I plan to be walking around a lot and carrying my stuff with me. That being said I domt know what would be more comfortable either a messenger bag or backpack for my items. I do not have a lot so it doesn't have to be big but I normally carry a backpack around so I am used to that but a messenger bag is the cheaper option.
