Travelling tips w/ equipments on a flight

i will be travelling to Puerto Rico for a wedding Photograph shoot next month. I'm going to be travelling with my partner (also my gf). Need some help how to package some equipments. I'm going to be travelling light since I am only there for 3 days... and since its PR, I can wear shorts everyday... of course not on the wedding day. How do I bring my tripod?? Can I put it in my carry-on luguage and not checking in??

I have a soft sided Porter case that is airline OK. It holds most of my gear. 10D, A2, 3 lenses, flash, charger, batteries and other accessories. If I'm bringing my Bronica too, I carry a second bag. Most airlines allow this without any trouble. I usually pack my tripod in my suitcase with my clothing. I've been all over with this set up and NEVER had a problem.
