Tripod Attachment for Going Vertical?

What are you guys using for being able to quickly flip from from horizontal to vertical mode when mounted on a tripod?

I just flip the ball head 90°. I'll get (or make) an L bracket if I ever decide to do portrait orientation pano's.

I use a ball head, so I can flip from anywhere to anywhere pretty quickly.

On the heads with three separate controls, one of them usually does a horizontal-vertical flip.

cgipson- I found that and it looks like what I need. My question is, will I be able to use this with my current tripod? I'm a video guy so I currently use a Libec tripod with an H22 fluid head.

I know these are basic questions but I'm a noob photographer!

There are a few ways of doing it. You can put a Kirk/RRS/Arca quick release clamp onto the Libec QR plate and still use the H22.

You could use a bowl adapter and mount the Kirk/RRS/Arca quick release clamp directly onto the bowl adapter - a very good, solid solution if you don't need more tilt than the bowl adapter will provide.

You could use the bowl adapter with a Kirk/RRS/Arca ball head with QR clamp on top.

If you don't like ball heads then the ultimate way would probably be to use a bowl adapter and an Arca Cube or D4 geared head, or the knock-offs, or a Manfrotto geared head with a Hejnar Arca replacement plate.

If you are a monopod user an L bracket has the added advantage of placing the camera over the monopod in portrait orientation instead of to the side as a ball head would do.

I simply just remove the back from my 4x5 camera and change it from the horizontal position to the vertical position. Th camera itself never moves. The whole procedure only takes a second.

Here is a really good deal on a 2" quick release that you could mount on your existing plate (might have to remove the positioning pin if you have it installed though) Kirk Enterprises : Blemished 2 in Quick Release Clamp
