Hi. I'm considering purchasing a Panasonic DMC-FZ35k (anyone tried it?). And I was wondering if it would be compatible with my Sony VCT-R640 Tripod. I'm not sure how this works or if one quick shoe (I think that's what it's called) fits all cameras.

I had been using this tripod with my Sony DSC-H9, which is of comparable size, if that helps.

Thanks!

Most cameras have a standard 1/4"-20 threaded recepticle for tripod mounting.

Most quick release plates use the same size screw so they can be attached to a camera.

The other side of a quick release plate is usually made to work with a specific brand of tripod to help the tripod maker sell their own quick release plates.

Thanks for the help!

I'm also confused about what this means for the aperture range:
F2.8 - 4.4 / Multistage Iris Diaphragm (F2.8 - 8 (W) / F4.4 - 8 (T))

Why are there so many ranges and what do the (W) and (T) mean?

Your Point n Shoot camera has a zoom lens. The aperture is variable depending on focal length.

(F2.8 - 8 (W) / F4.4 - 8 (T))

@ the wide end it is F2.8 to F8
@ the telephoto end it is F4.4 to F8
