Can anyone recommend a good tripod for a canon 5d with 70-200mm lense? Preferably one that does not cost a fortune.:D

welcome to the forum!

The search feature should be everyone's first approach. If you have a specific question fire away.

If you have a 5D and a 70-200 you should be the one telling people what to get. YOu don't just buy a 5d and a 70-200

That was absolutely rude. I have been using a cheaper model for some time and have just now upgraded and teaching myself. It is not my fault you can't afford to start with the best

Why not?
Having good gear doesn't mean someone's an expert. And being able to afford good gear doesn't mean someone has use lower models until you think they are ready.

That is way too broad of a question. It's like asking what car you should get, to drive to work everyday. ;)

Of course, you will want to look at weight ratings and get one that can easily hold your heaviest body & lens, but that still doesn't narrow down the field very much.
Choosing a tripod is more about personal preference and need.
Maybe you would pay more for a light tripod because you hike a lot. Maybe you would want a bigger, heavier tripod for use in a studio. Maybe you want one that is really tall, maybe you want one that can get really low to the ground. Maybe you want one that packs up nice and small etc.

Most mid to high level tripods come separate from the head, so you can choose which legs you want and which head you want. Again, it's largely personal preference.

My recommendation is to look at Manfrotto brand gear.

I started with Rebels, I now am using a 7D. I have the 70-200 as well. I bought my first tripod after carefully looking for a while as I wanted to buy only one tripod.

I am using a Manfrotto 190XPROB with a 488RC Head. The head is on the heavy side, but I have no compliants whatsoever with how this combination manages the camera and lens load.

I recently looked to see if there was a more travel friendly stand that could manage the load, and I will be packing what I have.
