Trouble with my Essentials

I turned on PS CC just now and the adjustments panel, normally on the RHS is not there. So the first thing I did was to say Jesus H how do I turn on the that thing again... afterward I went to window > workspace > reset essentials but nothing happened I feel like a complete noob but what am I missing.

Things that need pointing out:

1. Adobe made a hash of my CC account back whenever I got it so long and short they gave me my money back but CC still ran on my computer, PS 2014 + LR 5, downside is no updates. I wonder have they finally pinched me. On the other hand LR works so more then likely I just can't find the handbrake.

Edit: Have looked into it more and the destructive edits , from the top menu, are greyed out and not selectable so it might well be it. "busted"
