They all needed fill lighting (dark eye sockets (raccoon eyes) in the last 2), but the first is the best of the bunch.

Fill lighting can be as simple as a piece of white foam board, a low power pop of light from the camera's built-in flash unit, or provided by softboxes and studio strobes on light stands.

The first photo is lots of fun! The last photo, I think the pose is very awkward. It seems too "old" for him, if you know what I mean. But, even on an older (wiser :razz person, it would still be awkward.

Plus he's pretty green and OOF in the last one.

The first shot would be nice if you cropped it closer. I can really feel the emotion in his eyes.
