Me likey. But hard to go wrong with a picture that shows BOOKS, imo. ;-)

Only suggestion I'd make is that, if it were mine and IF there were room to do it, I might like to have made this taller, to show more of the shelves and books above him and give more of that sense of being totally surrounded by books as you make your choice of reading material. But, I realize there might not have *been* that much shelf space above him--although his line of sight suggests there was.

Still, that's not really even a nitpick. Just a thought about another option. I like it as is just fine.

If you are a used book lover, you have to go to Powell's in Portland Oregon if you are ever in the area. It's pretty awesome!

It's sharp and nicely converted but there are three negative things about it that occur to me.

First, the book cover text is so readable and presented as if it were the center of interest - in focus and the leading line of his arm pulls the viewer's eye to the book,
second, his face is way up at the top and that seems to signal that his face isn't important and
third, it's not clear what is interesting you about this shot, why should we be looking at it, it is totally un-mysterious.

I took this about 3 years ago. I suppose if I had to do it all over again, I would go a bit higher to show the upper shelves and put some room over his head.

And Lew, I didn't mean to ignore your last point--I was in the middle of making dinner and smelled something burning, lol.

As for the purpose: At the time, I was really into taking completely objective images--almost editorial, like shots for a newspaper. No fancy DOF, angle, or camera tricks, no PS besides a B&W conversion, just a straight photograph. I posted this because I am thinking about revisiting that approach.

I love Powell's!!! Go there every time I'm in the area. I could easily spend two days in that place. It will be a very sad day if they ever close down.

I like the shot but agree the book has managed to become the main subject.
