What's new

Utopia of Critique Forum

Hey Damnit, I'm a triple fire sign, and a type A personality to boot. What do you want from me? LOL.

Pity my poor husband, because when I want to do something, I'm like a shark with big teeth. I don't let go.

And of course, the salesman in me wants me to convince everyone to see things my way.:lmao:

So now, it's settled right? We have the new Critique section done my way or the highway. Is that good with everyone? :greenpbl:

wow, this thread is really alive!!

That must be unpleasant for him when you go dow... I think I'll stop that thought there and walk quietly away.

But I'll be back later with what I think will be a workable format for a crit forum.

Me be thinking that everyone knows there is an issue, and there is a possible resolution. I know there are a handful of members out of the thousands that make it difficult for other members, but maybe it is time to fix what is broke, and tossing ideas around is a start. or...just banninsing them to the black hole....oh wait...I dont want them down here either. :lmao::lmao:
We just have to keep this simple, but effective. I have found that being a mod on other forums ,that with the one that is non photography related...people hate things that are hard to work out. They like to click on whatever and do whatever. So...whatever the solution is here, it has to be very user friendly, but also fool proof, cause for sure a fool will come along.

Just want to say, it's so exciting to see everyone leap on this and work together to come up with a reasonable and workable solution. I can't wait to see the new version, and hopefully post in it, now that the prospect of being unkindly ripped to shreds is being eliminated

Thanks for posting Jeanney. That is one of the issues that has kept me here trying to add some imput. I have been PMed by members in the past who felt intimidated by members who go overboard with certain comments. I have also recieved some messages of support for what this thread is about.
Im sure this is a good base for something, and what encourages me, is that this thread is full of ideas and positive feedback, instead of the usual going after everything and anything someone might say.
If you have any ideas, please share them. :):)

Yay, I just love this place. It's still like a family most of the time.

:er: this is worse than I thought, are we in that much trouble? j/k

I've not contributed much to this, though I've been reading with interest as the thread has developed.

I think my immediate concern is that so far there is a relatively low representation from the overall (active) forum membership - 18 voices in amongst perhaps a couple of hundred, or less than 1/2 the number who participated in MaxBloom's personal poll. I just wonder whether it's possible to get a few more people to engage with the process, and preferably have a bigger proportion of the more recently joined members amongst them.

I wonder whether it would be possible to get this 'stickied' across all of the forums (pretty sure that's possible with vB) to get more members to engage in the discussion, or if not that, then use those contributing here to draft a proposal that can be put to a poll viewable across all forums - yes to accept proposal, no to reject.

If someone would perhaps make a dumbed down version perhaps more input would be made. (I would volunteer myself if I wasn't buried under so much to do)

Some people won't contribute because they never come down here so aren't aware of this discussion.
Some people won't contribute because they don't care.
Some people won't contribute because it requires a bit of effort and thought.
Some people won't contribute because they are shy.
Whatever the reason for them not contributing, though, you can bet that whatever comes out of this there will be some who will complain about it's structure, the way it functions and the people giving the crits.
And they will ***** about why they weren't consulted or given a chance to have their say

I'd agree that there is little you can do to address 2, 3 & 4, but 1 can be tackled directly as suggested, which in turn should minimise 5 & 6.

Also interesting that no Mods have contributed as yet (but we know you're all watching ). I'd be curious to know how long this might be allowed to run before a view on it all is presented - give us an objective to aim at drawing some solid conclusions, even if only a date. Better still, an indication of what might be possible technically, so we can at least knock on the head any wildly fanciful suggestions and allow us to focus on what can be done.

Hmmm ... if there will be a resolution, even i might post images or even critique in a critique section again :) (not that i ever posted alot anyway)

I think this thread shows there is some constructive thoughts.
