you do not need a formal qualification to be a photographer nless you want it to.
you can learn by yourself exactly how i have done it

it took 6-12 month of training, learning, exercising. In the same time try to do business and promoting
it is not an easy ride but consistency is the key...and practice

I have no formal education on photography, yet I work as a professional photographer. I literally picked up a camera and started shooting. Over time though, I've researched techniques to help hone my abilities. What kind of photographer do you want to be? That's relatively important as to what you need to research, etc.

If you have a camera and press the button, you're a photographer. If you'd like to become a professional photographer, or a good photographer, that's an entirely different thing. There are plenty of certifications and courses you can take, but most of them just mean you crossed all the items on some checklist and you are a technically proficient photographer, not that your work is especially interesting or noteworthy. To get there takes time and lots of practice, not necessarily schooling.
