Video Camcorders

Need recommedation on a decent Video Camcorders for up to 500 bucks. I'm looking for one that I can take out of the box and start making memories.

Is there a camcorder in this range that has a good "snapshot" capability?

My main knowledge is SLR so just looking at what Best Buy or online has is, to me, not enough to make a decision.

Or even what should my budget would help.
