Second one seems to have a lot of lost detail in the whites. Not sure if you mean to expose for details in the shadows and lost the details in the whites?

Thanks... The loss of white detail was partly due to the bright Nevada sun and the fact the color negative film used at the time was contrasty. I now use Fuji 400H which exhibits less contrast. Conversion to B&W was done in Gimp!
