Vulnerability

Hi everyone,

I was trying to see if I could portray vulnerability in a picture without being too obvious. It may be that it just didn't work at all but there we go.

It's a nice photograph, although the aspect ratio is a little too wide for my taste. It's a nice pose and the model has a beautifully ambiguous facial expression (albeit a bit sleepy). Does the image convey vulnerability? I suppose it does, among other things.

Vulnerability is difficult to capture on its own, as it can overlap with so many other things (weakness/frailty, fear, innocence, ignorance, isolation).

That said, I think you did a nice job. 'Vulnerability' doesn't necessarily jump out at me, and it's hard for me to say if I would've gotten that message loud and clear without you telling us what you were trying to accomplish.

Maybe some body language would help to convey vulnerability...

Hmmm... I'm wondering if you had composed the image with her in the far right side of the frame, leaving her with no "place to go".... trapped there.... and vulnerable.

Nice concept. Nice image too. I'm not willing to say you didn't get it done. The subtleties in her posture and expression do convey the feeling.

If you want to know if your photo really does convey a certain feeling, you can't mention it in your post.

By mentioning it, you are influencing the way we look at the image. Kind of like a title or a caption will influence the way we look at an image.

That said, I don't know what I would have seen in your photo if you had kept quiet but I like it nonetheless. It is quite a nice shot.

The pose was all to do with something I read about the animal instinct to expose the neck when submitting to a dominant animal...
Just something that stuck in my head!
