Selective coloring can have its place but for me, even with the ones I've tried, it rarely works like you think it will. In this case as with 99% of the others, my eye goes to the red dot and virtually stops..and waits, and waits and waits which soon becomes "painful."

No...a dimmed white light would serve the same purpose, escpecially if you cropped a bit more off the left side and maybe a little more off the top.

Hi. You can do whatever you feel like, ceeboy is not with photography governing body. As a matter of fact there are no rules in photography or digital photography.
Red dot like this one in your pic may be perceived as a cheap trick not appealing very much to many, to me either as I am more of a purist. The pic idea is good but this red dot changes it not in the way I would imagine.

I may sound weird but I really dont like cropping any pictures,I dont know why,maybe thats me!
Will try to crop the pic so as to keep attention to the subject

I'm not...dang, there goes another self-implied myth...

It was my response to him and not meant as the end all of end alls for him or anyone else, just my opinion. I didn't think it worked but I also didn't think of it as a cheap trick. It was more a gimmick and for me a photo should be able to stand on its own first and foremeost..then there's wiggle room for playing. The image has more problems than just the red light or the crop. I had to really search at the beginning to see that was a person sitting there and not just a heap of clothes. I don't get the sense of waiting as I do doom and gloom. The deselection of red was my initial reaction and will remain so whether I am on that prestigious board or not :meh:.

I don't like selective color and that is me. This idea of a shot would benefit from a bit deeper DoF or if that person would be closer, that would better pronounce it, the "waiting" thing. (IMO)

Nice shot. I prefer the one without the red dot, but for a different reason: if the image is to depict the pain of waiting (which IMO it does well), I think showing nothing in the background accentuates it...like you're waiting with nothing in sight. I would not crop the left side since it shows a track, which is key to making sense of the context. The stuff on the right though (what is it, a road?) is more distracting to me.
