Its a Good example what a decent walk about lens can do In the right hands. Another one that seem favorable Is the newer Tamron 18-200 Tamron 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC Lens for Nikon F AFB018N-700

Reviewed by this guy seems reasonable.

I could get a tamron 18-200 for $200 and just call it good. The ONLY use intended is travel, when I can't stop and be more deliberate.

Is it worth it (in your opinion) to spend more?

Well if you don't need VR, the 18-135mm can be had for $115.
