I've found the best way to capture hummingbirds is to set a camera on a tripod and do a zone of focus for a specific area you know they're going to be in, and set up a high shutter speed. Use a remote release and camo the camera and tripod (I use a camo plastic raincoat). Contrary to some other's ways of doing this, I use my 80-400 at f/11 (still good bokeh), ISO 320 @ 1/2500 - 1/6000 or better using aperture priority. I probably should use a different approach sometime, but it works and I'm a big, "if it ain't broke..."
Duh, I think I'll try this with some dragonflies, because I can never seem to catch them in flight - well, at least not sharply.
