I am the second most commonly used conveyance on the planet, after the automobile.

I carry 325 million passengers a day.

Too many people to be an airplane ... which is what I would have thought - second most after a car.

My next best guess is shoes (lol), but 325 million people a day probably isn't enough for that.

OK, I got it. I cheated though, so I'm not going to say what it is.

Before the elevator was invented, the most expensive floors in a building were the ground floors, because people were less likely to hike up 4 or 5 flights of stairs.

That flipped after elevator installations multiplied, and the top floors became the most expensive.

Not in the early days of Rome. The upper floors were the way to go.

I guess because I work in an office building, and you used the word "conveyance" so I was thinking it might not be a mode of standard transportation (like bus, train, etc).

Although I thought it might be train too.
