What camera is a good beginners camera? Just starting out

What would be a good beginners (dSLR) camera to buy thats not too expensive? : )

D3100, D3200, D5200.
Those are all really good cameras to start with.

I only know Nikon by the way. Make sure you take a look at Canon too.
There's no actual huge difference between Nikon/Canon unless you get to their pro-grade cameras.
Of course there's some differences but they both make cameras that can take awesome photos.
Remember though, you'll probably be making a permanent investment in the brand you choose. Switching is usually not an option once you've already got several lenses.

Go to a camera store and actually hold a few cameras before choosing one.

Any current market Canon or Nikon entry level camera is a very good choice. Olympus, Sony and others also make good quality cameras and if you're only taking it as far as general snaps are well worth considering*

In general any DSLR will be a good starting point for anyone as despite the bells and whistles they all operate exactly the same way with aperture, ISO and shutter speed as your controllers for all exposures.

Choosing can simply be done on what camera feels best in your hands and which interface feels the most intuative to use. That said if you've ideas on a specific direction you'd like to go; specific subjects or situations you'd like to work with and some ideas on budgets and the like then we can give more detailed advice (whilst most brands can do most if not all areas of photography some are better than others; some are more affordable; some will have more breadth and some might offer features very specific to niche or select areas of photography).


*this is not to say that Sony or Olympus don't make quality high end gear, they most certainly do - however the range are a bit more limited in some respects and there are some other factors to consider esp when it comes to 3rd party support).
