didnt say it was the perfect shot, but when its a moving subject its hard to know where he's gonna be in frame.

Yes, but you could add in more black space for better composition more easily than removing the pole. :meh:

It's better all blacked out, would be easy to add more black space over his head, give the image a little more balance, I would also crop some of the bottom off.

I like the second. To me totally blacked out leaves a lot to the imagination (not always a bad thing). Framing for a shot like this is difficult at best, I to would like to see just a bit more space on top. I'd imagine the key is getting a good shot before the rider gets tired of performing the jump.
