What's new

what is your "photgraphic style" ?

Limr:
Mysterious, nostalgic, available light, quirky, fun , reflective....

Judi, I tried to think of some words for your work, but you have so many different looks on flickr! You really have some awesome stuff there!

It's like porn. Can't explain it, but I know it when I see it.

I don't consciously shoot a "style" mostly because the way I want to shoot something depends on what it is and what I want to capture. Personally, I think it paints you into a corner to have a certain, distinctive 'style'. It's limiting and can stifle creativity if you find yourself always shooting the same things or in the same way.

...is there any pints and bacon involved???

I don't have a style yet. I'm just begining so am still exploring many styles and techniques.

For me style comes later on, after the learning phase and when your more exploring ideas or concepts into a coherent body of work.

And when someone says to find your style, or this is their style. what does that mean to you?

It means nothing to me.

Way back when I first started shooting, I was obsessed with trying to figure out my style.

Then I realized I needed to stop worrying about that and keep shooting and learning instead.

Eventually, my "style" came to exist. I couldn't tell you what that is, but I've been told over and over I have a specific "style" to the way I shoot.

Cool. I still don't know what that is in words.

It just is.

That being said, I don't think "style" is a static thing. I'm constantly learning more and I think as a result my style will eventually evolve, if it isn't already.

I've seen it in other photographer's work as well... Where they started in one place and over a year or two evolved further into that style, or into something else entirely different.

I agree Emily. For a long time I wanted to know what my 'style' was. Finally, I gave up, and my style found me. It is ever evolving, ever changing. But I still think style is what separates us from one another. I think once you start shutting out other people's voices and listening to your own, your true style will really emerge.

I dunno... it depends...

I would say that my style is I like darker less exposed images of things. When I have shot weddings with other photographers, I notice they brighten up the dimly lit areas a ton and over expose to get it to be a brighter photo. I tend to like to take the light as it is and get a little bit darker of a photo. So when I look back through the photo's or when my clients look through them, they remember what the ambiance was like and what they payed to have someone do with the lighting. I also just tend to like darker and a little bit more saturated color's where certain people like bright saturated, or bright under saturated.

I need a towel....

Sorry, should have put a NSFW warning on that post.

I really do not have a style, I shoot mainly wildlife, waterfalls, and landscapes mostly by natural light. I may spend hours waiting for a certain animal bird or the right light for waterfalls or flowers. I do have various techniques that I use. But no real style.
