So I was wondering if anyone here could help me out pick up a lens between the sigma 10-20mm and the sony 11-18mm. I want a wide angle lens that is sharp. I don't care if it's heavy or compact. As long as I get a good result. :)

Also I was looking into Sony's 16mm F2.8 Fisheye

Any ideas, reviews or tests.

Any help on picking one would help :)

:D

EDIT: I have a sony a100

Not sure about the sony but the sigma is a good lens.

+1 for the sigma!

CameraLabs has a review on the 11-18.

Sadly, it's not a full frame lens but I hope the new full frame can overcome that.

The Sigma is a GREAT lens...one of my favorite purchases.

seems like everywhere I go sigma gets good feedback.

It's super cheap on amazon right now, but only in the states :(

I have another question actually

what is HSM???

I see
Sigma 10-20mm 10-20 F4-5.6 f/4-5.6 EX DC HSM for SONY
and
Sigma 10-20mm 10-20 f/4-5.6 f4-5.6 EX DC for Sony

B&H is one of the best websites around. There's a link at the top of the page for it. And HSM stands for hyper sonic motor. Which makes auto focusing faster. Definitely go with that model if you can.

B&H is one of the ONLY sites i trust. That along with Ritz, Adorama, KEH and Amazon.

I just got the Sigma and LOVE it! I did a lot of research on it before hand and it got excellent reviews. I know nothing about the sony though.
HSM means hyper sonic motor. Super fast. :D

I'd go for the sigma, I owned the Tamron/Sony 11-18 for about 3 days.

Used it on my D70 and it was probably one of the worst photographic purchases i've ever made. It was just soft, and the images out of it were ugly. Absolutely no detail in the corners, and the CA's and Distortions only made things worse.

If it was sharp, i might have kept it, but the Sigma is cheaper and 100% better. Also look into the Sigma 12-24. I bought speedlights instead, and since I can use them off camera wirelessly, it fast became a no-brainer what was more useful.
