I just purchased a Nikon D70 from a local retailer, and it included the 18mm-70mm lens. I also purchased a 70-300mm lens off of ebay. Now, what would be the best lens to get next. I will be shooting horse shows (jumping), but I would also like a nice lens for macros. Any suggestions?

(Btw, what are people talking about "Prime" lenses... )

Thanks everybody!

A "prime" lens is a lens with a fixed focal length. It does not zoom.

Because the design of a prime lens is so much more simple than that of a zoom lens...you can get great prime lenses at good prices. They are usually very sharp.

Another advantage of prime lenses, is that they are usually much faster than typical zoom lenses. (by fast, I mean that they have a bigger maximum aperture...(smaller F number)). This means you can shoot in lower light situations and still get faster shutter speeds.

I would suggest that you get a nice prime lens. A 50mm F1.8 or a 35mm. You may find that you like these lenses more than your zoom lenses.
