what makes a good watermark?

hi guys, Im new to all this and wanted to know what is the best free watermarking software thats easy to use?
I have looked at a few programmes but i cant seem to get on with them ... a little help please x

I think you need to mention what software you have used in the past and also how elaborate you want your watermark to be...
There are simple programs out there to create them and up to using PS-CS5...

A watermark is a graphic, or graphic art.

A watermark needs to be scaleable.

To be scalable the watermark needs to be a vector graphic, not a raster graphic.

Vector and Raster graphics applications have a learning curve. A free vector graphics application is Inkscape.

Photographs get edited using raster graphics, though many raster graphics applications have some vector graphics capabilities/features/functions.

A couple of free raster graphics applications are Photoscape and GIMP.
