I'm looking into getting some ND filters for daytime long exposures? What rating would serve me best for daytime long exposures up to a minute or two?

In broad daylight, probably a 6- or 8-stop. Depends a lot on what ISO and aperture you want to use.

I am not familiar with filters. Are you saying I need a filter that reduces 6 stops or an ND6 filter?

Why not a variable?

Thanks for the help guys! I'm just going to get an ND 1000 for when I'm hiking and decide to take some photos in the daytime.

I think you're hunting squirrels with an aircraft carrier, but hey... it's your money and your images!
