What's new

What photography related item did you acquire?

I picked up some Eneloop AA batteries and chargers for my speed lights last week. It looks like I just missed an Amazon "Deal of the Day" on these, although the difference only would've been about $10. I was burning through 4-8 alkaline batteries per week, so it definitely made sense to go this route!

The recycle rate of the NiHM batteries is also 2-3 times as fast, so you’re winning there too!

You got that right! My average recycle time at full power on a Godox TT600 went from a sluggish 9.6s with alkalines to a very tolerable 2.8s with the Eneloops. Now I just have to use up the remaining charge in the alkaline batteries currently in my flashes before fully moving to these.

I have a package arriving later today. It's super exciting, and I'll post it here for all to see.

okay, so I got the 10 stop filter to go with the step up ring ;)

This means I'll be able to use the 10 stop filter with both my Irix 15mm and my 80-200mm, my primary landscape lenses at this point. I couldn't talk my wife into a 100mm filter system completely, so that may have to wait until the summer. We'll be relatively flush without the weekly childcare expenses!

My most recent acquisitions were a used D800; a 75-300 f/4.5-5.6 AF Nikkor zoom (the solidly-made one with the permanent tripod mount), and a couple weeks ago, I bought a 135mm f/3.5 Ai-Nikkor lens. All seemingly good stuff.

I refuse to put it in writing. If the UPS, Fedex, or the mailman, delivers without the DW seeing it, then it never happened. I had it all along, LOL

PD Captive to holster any of my cameras on backpack strap or belt
NICE! I really want to try the slide, but my BlackRapid is still going. I just dislike how much it bounces around.

I quoted this, because I have the CapturePro V2 and LOVE it. I've used it on multiple occasions and highly recommend it.

Let us know how you like the Mefoto tripod.

I have a BlackRapid that I like a lot, actually a little better than the Slide because of the way the shoulder padding is done, but I wanted something more universal and easily switchable between cameras and tripod.

And yes the Captive is fantastic! I tried it out for the first time when I went out with the Zombie's on Saturday. It was a good test because we did a ton of walking. I had the EM1 with the 300mm hanging of the backpack strap and it was comfortable and out of the way when walking around. I'll be using it a lot.
I still like my BossStrap, and it leaves the tripod socket available.

Most recent purchase was a gift to me from me for my birthday, a lensbaby twist 60. I had been debating for a long time on getting a Petzval and the lensbaby was cheaper. Picked up a photography crystal ball a few weeks ago. I am looking forward to using the lensbaby outside if it ever stops raining and my neighbor's cherry tree blossoms.

A few months ago I bought a Fujifilm XP action/waterproof camera. Only used it once in a pool foam party and the audio was trash after the camera got wet. I was tired of taking my GoPro and accessories and messing with backdoors on trips. Thought the Fuji would be less hassle. I let the grands take photos with it since it is drop proof to 5ft. Told husband it is for the grands!

I have a sling bag that I use for my DSLR and really like. I had a camera backpack and just too heavy to carry gear for me. Took it and my DSLR to Mexico a few times and felt like it was screaming "camera" everywhere we went. Now I take my 2 little Sonys on trips and throw them in a smallish daypack. I could get my GoPro in there too and now the Fuji. I find it is easier to get video when no one notices you or they probably don't think much of me & small cameras.

I'm still on the fence if I want a softbox or modelling light. As a hobbyist I don't know how much I want to invest.

I prefer using the tripod mount on the camera to connect my strap. More secure than the lugs and I like the way it hangs at my hip with my long lens on it. I have the small arcswiss plate permanently attached and the anchors for the strap connect to the plate. No screwing things on our off and I can still put the camera on the tripod without disconnecting the strap.

New bubble levels for my Cambo SC. B&H finally got them in stock. On their way now.

I definitely will. There were only a couple of video reviews on youtube... it was cheap enough to take a chance on.

Cherry Blossoms,f/4 at 1/320 second. Same background as above. Note the yellow wall segment to the far right.

All in all, the Nikkor 135mm f/3.5 Ai lens is a nice performer optically, but the Ai generation Nikkor lenses have slow focusing throws and very stiff, high-resistance focusing ring action; this is the MAIN difference between the Ai and the Ai-S generation. When the majority of the older Ai lenses were upgraded to the newer Ai-S designation, the barrel cosmetics were "modernized", and also the Ai-S Nikkors were designed to have fewer degrees of focusing rotation, and were designed to have a much, much lighter, almost feather-touch movement of the focusing ring. Even when new, the Ai lenses focused more stiffly than the Ai-S lenses. In most cases, I prefer the faster, easier-to-turn focusing action of the Ai-S lenses. On the D800, this lens was difficult to focus, even with the green dot electronic rangefinder; the degree of force required to turn the ring was an impediment to me...a Nikkor shooter since 1982...I grew up mostly with the Ai-S lenses, but have owned and still own a few Ai-series examples.
