What's new

What photography related item did you acquire?

Nikkor 16mm f/2.8 AF-D fisheye

Nissin 40 guide flash & trigger for Fujifilm, dinky but has some power. I wanted a smaller more powerful flash than what comes with the XT2. Won't use it that much but should be handy. Plus it moves all around which is useful.

The man in the brown truck brought Kodak photo paper yesterday.

Before that, my photos and CDs etc. from film I sent in to Dwayne's. Even though the descriptions I read of the 'Kodachome' movie said otherwise, they're still in business. And I got the T shirt.

Oh, I forgot this. My 2nd shooter to the Nikon F or FM. One wide, one normal or one B & W and one color.

I just ordered a platypod knock off and cheap ballhead for my trip to Greece.

A 10 stop ND filter, so that I can finally take the kind of flowing misty water pictures that I've seen in the museums.
When they used sheet or plate film back when the film speed was below ASA-1.

I plan to get a variable ND filter for less than 10 stops.

Finally found a ball head for a price I can live with. A Giottos mh-1000. It's a beast. Should work nicely on the Vanguard tripod. And a remote shutter release. Now if I could just get the clouds to move when the moon is full.

Today I stepped into twenty-first century flash gear, and bought a used Elinchrom ELB 400 HS kit, plus a ProMediaGear "cage" and a stud and stand mounting system.

bought the Elinchrom ELB 400 Hi-Sync To Go Kit, Quadra HS Head, Power Pack and Reflector

Not sure I'll use this much until summertime, but the price was so attractive I had to buy it.

Nice! I've been looking for one of those for a while.

The ELB 400 has a built-in receiver, and the Skyport transmitter allows me to wheel-click the power output up or down very easily. I JUST got it put together a few minutes ago, and tested out the photo-cell tripping: works great at 1/16 power on a D610's in-built flash. The Skyport transmitter I got with this used kit is for Canon, and I tested it on my Canon 20D...works great! I payed 35% of total combined new retail value for the kit and the Skyport and the ProMediaGear accessories, so I'll look into a Nikon-centric Skyport unit possibly, or maybe look into some other triggering, like my PocketWizard Plus setups, or maybe a third-party, relatively inexpensive triggering setup. Or God forbid, I'll switch to Canon gear! lol.

I like the idea of this new Hi-Sync feature; flash durations are very brief, and it can synchronize at up to 1/8000 second. I look forward to trying some wide-aperture, outdoor flash shooting.

I liked this European pro shooter's After A year of Use review.

I like the 424 Watt-seconds to 7 Watt-second range...wow! That's a huge range of power outputs from one flash head. And--the charger delivers more power than the ELB uses...in effect, allowing the pack to be used as an AC-powered pack!

The OLED readout shows this unit as having logged 10 hours and 50 minutes of use, with 958 total flashes fired, and 144 power-on cycles.

I recently got a Rokinon 16mm f/2 to use for astrophotography. Looking forward to learning how to use a fully manual lens for things other than nighttime stuff.

I traded my T5 and three EF/S lenses for a new EF 70-300 to use when traveling. Used it this week in Quito. Don't want to travel with the white lens: heavy and expensive.

I really like it. Have not detected chromatic aberration on it like the EF/S I unloaded and focus on the 6D Mii is super fast and silent. For 500 USD, to me it is a good value.

Got the "Platypod" and ball-head in today, all for less than half of what the Platypod Max costs alone...

supports the D800, with grip, with 70-200 without blinking. well machined aluminum.

Was very impressed with the Platypod, not the price. Mind sharing where you got that? Does it come with adjustable feet?

Hoped to use something like this with my Fujifilm S8630 this summer. If it will hold my Canon gear, I'm really interested.
