What's everyone using for SD cards? Any deals out there?

Just wondering what you're using for SD cards these days? I need to restock. Any good deals out there? I like the 32GB...

I use the samsung pro, 80mb write speed. It is important to know what your camera's write speed is, because buying cards that have a much faster write speed than your camera can write, is a waste of money imo. I checked my cameras write speed here:

If you buy faster cards than what you camera can handle they may go into a "compatibility" mode. Which may be much less than the fastest speed your camera can handle.

I cannot remember which camera setup it was, but for example my Lexar 150 mb/s SD UHS II card would be slower than my Extreme Pro 95/80 mb/s card in the D750 because the Lexar has to go into compatibility mode from UHS II (two) to UHS I (one).

The UHS II speed for the D500.
UHS I for D750, D600, etc.

The Extreme Pro speed seems best if you have UHS - I SD card slots

I like the SanDisk Extreme Pros and never had one die on me, but I know other's have. So it seems more hit and miss.

I have been using Lexar CF and SD cards. Not sure if I'll get to continue that, but I have seen something about a company buying that line from Lexar so we shall see.

The UHS-II were slower than 60mb/s UHS-I cards

So it doesn't pay to go beyond your camera's capability. It also depends upon their "compatibility" mode too as one UHS-2 was pretty close but another was way off the mark.

I've had issues with sandisk SD cards (two failed) so I've been buying the Transcend R95 cards.

I don't notice any speed difference between the two, but I can do a quick test for you. The difference between a 95mb/sec and 40mb/sec card is substantial:

I have mostly Sandisk CF and SD cards that I use regularly. Varying speeds up to 128gb. Speeds and sizes are basically what was available when I bought them. I normally bought near the high end for speed and moderate capacity. Basically what was the best price at the better speed divided by GB capacity. Normally the really high capacity cards were more per MB. So, I bought the fast cards but at the middle capacities. I have not had a Sandisk card go bad. Some I have been using for 10 years now.

I picked up my first Sony XQD before I received my D850. and just prior to that purchased my first Lexar SD cards. I have a couple older Transcend CF cards as well. But they don't work in newer Nikon models due to the new low voltage card requirements (D800). I also have a couple older Kingston CF cards that still work fine in older cameras (D300). The Kingston CF cards are about 12-15 years old.

I, like most other Sandisk customers, have never had a failure on perhaps 40-50 Sandisk memory cards and thumb drives I've bought. However, there ARE pirate 'knockoffs' out there that are cheap junk. Perhaps those that had them fail purchased them from sites like ebay or other questionable sources. B&H photo is ROCK SOLID. No knockoffs there! I think I've spent more than the value of my car there in the past 10 years or so... Never had a problem with any of the camera and computer gear I've purchased there.

I generally used Sandisk myself, but with a very bad experience with a Micro 64gb (the Extreme Pro 64gb microSD to be precise), I just know to stay away from THAT one (it seemed that it was a common issue with that model). And now I tend to research anything a little more, before I buy it, if it's going to hold anything remotely important, as well as much more frequent backing up.

Sandisk Extreme Pro 64GB for my Sony RX100s & micro Sandisk 32GB for the GoPro. I had read on the GoPro forums there was a problem with the 64GB. I shoot mostly video with the Sonys. CF card for the Canon. A few times I have found great deals for the SD cards at Best Buy around Thanksgiving at 60% off.
