What's your opinion of this light kit?

Currently, I only have the SB600 flash. I'm looking to get some additional lighting. I want to keep it under $500. I found this kit at Wolf Camera.

What do you think?

Any suggestions for something better for the money?

There isn't a lot of info there.

I'm assuming that those are constant lights (not strobes). They would probably be OK for still life type stuff...but constant lights just aren't very good for portraits because they just don't have the power to allow you to use faster shutter speeds.

If shooting people is your goal, I suggest looking at strobe (flash) lights instead.

As mike said strobes are probably a better idea depending on what you are doing with them try alienbees they have a decent 2 light kit for around your budget.

Depending how soon you need them, the vendor that Strobist uses is putting together kits using the cheap-o setups that are recommended there. You might check them out when they start selling them. Right now only the first one is available.

I'm hoping they'll offer a version without the flash since I already have one.

I agree with JIP. I have an Alien Bee and I love it, though I don't have many miles on it yet.:hug::

i use these lights. theyre not strobes or anything. the bulbs are 500watt incandecents. theyre extremely bright. but the down fall is the fact that they stay on for long perios of time if youre going a series of shots.
