Camera, gun.... breathing's the same. Inhale, exhale half way and hold. This assumes hand-held camera.

I'm not quite sure I'm getting your question?
I always HOPE I don't have halitosis...

Do you actually mean to ask: do you breathe or don't you?
That much depends on WHAT I'm shooting.
Like when I tried out that reverse lens macro shooting, where DOF is razorblade thin, I even had to try and make my heart stop beating for the moment I took the photo (impossible, of course, but just to show you how very much you need to have everything under control, also your breathing).
If you need to hold your breath, you best breathe in first and hold it then. Once you have breathed out, you have an instant desire to breathe in again. I'm sure, everyone knows this.
And yes, I tend to hold my breath in situations where I handhold a photo that is very much on the edge (like at 1/13 sec or so).

At the end of exhalation, with empty lungs.

LOL!!! shooting a deer at 500ft and a model at 15ft is totally different. you guys are funny. I fart! crack a joke and laught at the same time

I wish my 30-06 had VR.

Do you guys hyperventilate while shooting 8 fps?

When I use focal lengths over 300mm or shutter speed slower than 1/20 of a second I hold my breath. With VR, VRII or OS on.

HAHA, good one.

I agree that it depends. The only time it would matter ( for a normal person anyway ) would be if you were shooting at a slower shutter speed. I shoot hand held with my 400mm 5.6 all day long without any special breathing, but I make sure my shutter speed stays above 1/1000th. If I have to go slower ( down to like 1/800th ) I may go out of my way to try and hold with some special technique to brace myself. If I go much slower than that, I just get out a tripod, up the ISO, or call it a day.

Also, another instance I think of where it would matter is if you were attempting a hand-held bracketed HDR shot.

I think zooming a fair distance is about the only time I concentrate on my shakes/breathing/steadyness. Other than that it just bleh !

ghache breathes quite fast when he shoots those modles.

With me, it was more in the past, shooting film - using 400 ASA max.

Spray and pray. If the photos don't look good I go buy more expensive camera gear and try again.
