Which ... keep 85/1.8D or upgrade to 85/1.8G or save up for 85/1.4D

Yes, I like the small footprint of the 50 AF-D. I used to have the 24/2.8 AF-D also and it was the same size. Easy to fit about anywhere.

I have an 85/1.4D, It's a lens with it's own special attributes. I don't use it often and it's not a 'do it all' lens but what it does do is portraits, and it does it very very well.

Never used the D lens but it seems to me to be a marginal upgrade for the cost. You would probably get more bang for your buck elsewhere.

I took a lightly different tack --> I upgraded ... big time | Photography Forum

but the 85/1.4D is on my short list still.
