Which Nikon zoom 24-120VR or 24-85

What’s the verdict on the 24-120 VR lens as a general use lens? I am mostly curious about the quality of the glass and the image quality. I know the VR is great but what about the rest of the lens. How does it compare to the other Nikon zooms in that range? I am also looking at the 24-85. It seems like I read the 24-85 is a little sharper and it is about half the price. Please give me some help on picking a general purpose zoom for a F100.

I have the 24-120 and love it! Its built well and focusus quickly and the VR has helped me get several pictures I otherwise didn't have enough light to obtain without setting a higher ISO than I would have liked.

I originally purchased it a few days before a hoiday to Crete when it first came out and found it to be a great travel lens.

I was going to go for the 24-85 but the VR won out for me in the end as I'm glad I made the choice I did.
