Who gives?

I wonder if famous photographers take photographs that they think other people will like, or if they just take photographs that they think they will like.

I think that most take photographs that stand on their own to tell a story or illustrate the vision that they have. By doing that, they know that they will have the largest possibility of appealing to an audience. Whether someone likes them or not is really pretty subjective to the viewer.

Also, in terms of publishing and stock photography, its not about what the photographer or editor LIKES, its about what the editor NEEDS. So sending the most artistically appealing shot may not be as good as just a nice straight forward tack-sharp shot with a proper exposure that is exactly the subject that they are asking for.
