I also say get rid of the thread, and there is also a hair on the right side of her wrist, get rid of it to.

A bit unhappy at going so much against the tide here but I think that the original needed more work before the conversion.
The eyes are at the mid-line or below, leaving the entire top half occupied by a bland, no interest hat and space.
The hand, the hat and the bit of shirt showing are all different tones and brighter than the face.
It is sort of a jumble of tones

me as well. i think it also proposes a interesting example of when it is okay to cut something off in the frame (while are natural inclination is to not)

Thanks Lew for the edit. Though I do like the composition you came up with, part of the challenge for me was I wanted to keep it a 4x6 ratio. I also think you went a tad too much with the tones, again, for my taste. Seeing my edit next to yours, I would agree, thought, mine could use a little more tonal range.
