Why carry so many DSLRs?

I have seen some photographers carried 2 to 3 DLSR cameras. Why carry so many?

Also I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that for many photography jobs you always need to have a spare with you in case your main camera breaks down (Im talking about big events, like weddings and such)

For the same reason my grandson keep breaking things, because he wants too. lol........I personally like to use 2 bodies, one with a 18-55 and the other with a 70-300............I could make due with less, but what would be the fun in that?

Here is a simple equation to explain it all.

C=(N+1)

It can also be rewritten as:

C=(S-1)

C=Amount of cameras you should have.
N=Amount of cameras you currently have.
S=Amount of cameras that will force your wife to separate from you.

This works for many things! (Like computer games, bicycles, and hookers)

I use mulitple bodies so I can use different lenses quickly. I will have the long telephoto on one, and then the mid or wide angle on the other. If I'm not shooting where I need the 400mm on the camera, then I will still carry both, one with the 24-70 and the other has the 70-200 on it. By not having to swap out lenses as often it also helps keep down the dust that gets on the sensor meaning less cleaning.

Yep, much quicker to switch cameras than switch lenses. What really gets complicated is when you have 3 different bodies, and 3 different lenses you'll be using for one event, and you try to figure out which lens you need to put on which camera and then which one of those gets a flash.
