Why carry so many DSLRs?

The same can be asked to those who wear designer clothes, shoes or hand bags that cost more than camera gears.

Plus, that's what my tripod is for.

Been carrying around my equipment in countries where its value makes the average income of 10 - 20 people for a whole year. Never any problem.

Been carrying around my equipment in areas where there was open conflict between the regular army and the armies of the drug cartels. I was not sure if my life was safe, but I never feared I'd lose my equipment.

Just once in Russia a group tried to pickpocket some pieces, but I was smarter than them.

The situation where I usually fear something bad might happen to my equipment is when I'm on the water in small boats, or when I ford mountain rivers with strong currents

I think the fear is how many f-bombs would I say if I ever dropped tens of thousands dollars in equipment. Know your surroundings, do your research before you go to a location, and you should be a lot more prepared.

You definitely want to be alert when you are out and about for bad people and environmental hazards and I too carry a little something for the would be mugger but honestly I don't think most people realize just how much camera gear is worth. (as opposed to jewelry)

I was shooting some geese on the side of the road the other day and people were shouting things at me as they drove buy and one yelled "get a f!@#ing job!" So here I am holding 4k+ worth of camera gear and he thinks I'm some jobless loser wandering around town taking pictures. I have also had people see my camera and promptly start to brag about their brother's/cousin's/friend's camera setup that cost them $400.00!!! I'm sure a 'professional' mugger would know it's worth something and some meth-head just out for something to pawn might take a run at you but I don't think its as dangerous as wearing a 14k diamond necklace or something.

My d200 failed once while I was shooting stuff for work. Luckily I had a backup or everything would've been ruined since we only had the space for a limited time. Turned out to be just a bad battery grip..

As far as carrying around expensive gear. I only really shoot my dslrs at events (races, car shows, etc.) so security isn't an issue. The only thing that really sucks about carrying multiple cameras is the weight. One on the neck, one on the shoulder, plus camera bag.. after a few hours of shooting a race for example, I get pretty sore.. but it's worth it.
