Why have YOU started Photography??

I started because I was selling a lot of stuff online and was sick of taking rubbish photos. Once I learned a little bit I realised that there was so much more to learn, and being of a technical mind it frustrated me not knowing how to do it properly so I got a bit obsessed, and then realised that I actually do have a creative side after all despite my many years of studying engineering.

I started shooting because I love being able to capture part of someone's personality or essence in a photo. Material things come and go, memories fade, but a meaningful photograph can bring the past alive, and connect us to where we've been.

I heard that professional photographers get to sleep with the models after shooting sessions... one of my mate told me that. So I bought a D700.

I took it up as the best way to fully enjoy watching wildlife.

I used to live on the top floor of an apartment building as a teenager. Every time there was a big storm with lightning I used to climb out the window, up the fire escape, and watch it roll in from the roof. One time I went up there with my 110-film camera and just started snapping pictures every time I saw a lightning bolt, hoping to catch one. By sheer luck I found upon developing those pictures that I got a perfect shot within that roll of film. That picture is still hanging on a wall in my house today, well more than two decades later. It took me all of this time to get serious about pursuing this properly, learning everything I can and making this more than just a situation of randomly getting a great shot here and there and being able to take good photos of my kids, but I'm finally on my way.
