Wide angle lense recommendations for under $500

Hey there!

Just starting to dabble a bit in photography so I don't know too much about equipment yet. Right now just using the standard 55mm lense that came with my Canon Rebel T6i. I live in Alaska so landscape photos are kind of a big portion of what I shoot, but I like to mess around in other disciplines of photography/shooting videos.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a wide angle lense that stays within my budget?

Sorry, but - "55" ? "lense" ?

I assume you wanted to say "lens" ?

And the kitzoom EF-S 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 IS II ?

Having a 55mm lens would be perfectly OK, its just a bit strange that a beginner would only have a 55m prime lens.

For Canon there is indeed a very cheap and good wide angle option, the EF-S 10-18mm f4.5-5.6 IS.

I suspect the 55 is the filter size, not the focal length.

Most likely it's the 18-55mm kit lens and agree that the EF-S 10-18mm is the best budget choice available.

Well. kit lens is quite good (nice pics on your link), but to go wider i would take a look on Samyang line. Manual focus, pretty affordable and good quality.

yes, a refurbished 10-18 is a good choice for wide landscapes ($199 which includes one year warranty)

Don't forget to look at a refurbished 10-22. They usually go in the $450 range refurbished and is a stellar EF-s lens.
